Offset One EP is the second release from Exan, an Irish producer (Alex Leonard) based in Berlin.

This EP serves as a companion piece to his debut release Centic Primer, which came out in December 2021. Alex found the creation of Centic Primer to be a long and intense creative process, and after taking some time away, he returned to scour through the ideas that hadn’t made the cut. With fresh perspective he discovered potential gems, and set about reworking and expanding these ideas.

Elements were stripped back to their core and new ideas layered in through extensive recording sessions and improvised jams. Some pieces were wholly reframed in new tempos and imagined spaces, breathing new life into those core ideas which had fallen by the wayside.
The result clearly shows his fascination with densely packed electronic experimentation and the creation of detailed sonic landscapes. Whilst the spaces he establishes are undoubtedly synthetic, they somehow manage to imply a human, organic sensation, one juxtaposed with poly-rhythms and contrapuntal rising and morphing drone elements.

The album artwork was created by Polish artist Adrianna Snochowska who, immersed in the music, created a detailed and intricate oil painting whilst listening to the rough mixes. It yields her own interpretation of the interweaving sonic elements - a fusion of colours & imagination. A limited edition series of high-quality prints are available to accompany the release.

The EP has been crisply mastered by Jeff Swearengin and will be available on Bandcamp and all major streaming services from 1st February 2024.

Alex has been releasing music since 2003 under the aliases Ebauche and Dronal, projects which lean toward a more ambient style, before branching out and joining Errorgrid in 2019 with his Exan project.
